Frequently
Asked Questions:
- When can I move in? The building should
be ready for occupancy early August 2008. Please be sure to check
back for the official date.
- I'm coming from out of the area or out of
the Country, can I arrive after office hours or on the weekend and
move-in? No. Housing Staff are only available Monday
through Friday, from 8:00 am to 5:00 pm. In order to get
the keys to your unit and move-in you must pay the remainder of your
security deposit and sign a Rental Agreement, which can only be done
by meeting with a member of the Housing Staff. If you arrive
in Claremont on the weekend or after office hours you must make
hotel arrangements, stay with a friend, or stay with a host family
until the Housing Office is open.
- If I want to share a unit do I have to find
my own roommate(s)? No, the Housing Staff will rent each room
individually. Please be aware that roommates are
chosen at random.
- Where can I buy a bed? We have a
relationship with a local mattress retailer, Dana’s Mattress, and
they have special pricing for CGU students. We will have a flyer
uploaded to the web and available in the Housing Office.
- Can I bring my own furniture? The
apartments are fully furnished, except beds. You
may bring some small furniture items, however they might not fit.
Please keep in mind that none of the furnishings provided by CGU can
be removed from your unit at anytime. Some items we suggest
you bring are: dishes, silverware, pots and pans, towels, sheets,
blankets, shower curtain.
- I’m renting a shared unit, who is
responsible for cleaning the common areas? All tenants are
responsible for picking up after themselves, along with regular
cleaning of the kitchen and bathroom. It might be a good idea to
discuss your expectations with your new roommate(s) within the first
week.
- Will I sign a Rental Agreement? Yes,
all residents will sign a Rental Agreement upon arrival.
- When can I move out? We set 3 specific
time frames per year in which you are permitted to vacate without
penalty, all conveniently scheduled during semester breaks.
- Can I vacate my unit during summer break
and return to the same unit for fall semester? No, should you
decide to vacate during summer break you are not guaranteed housing
for fall. You will have to go through the application process again.
- Will my security deposit be refunded when I
move out? Yes, the Housing Office will refund your $500.00
security deposit less any deductions for damage, cleaning, key
replacement, painting, unpaid rent, etc. However, if you leave your
unit in acceptable condition, your entire deposit will be refunded
within 21 days.
