New Student Housing • Latest Update • September 2, 2008 Welcome to the Fall semester and for those moving in to the new CGU Apartments, welcome to your new home! We hope you are settling in well. As with all new housing, there are some transitional issues. These are temporary and are being addressed by Housing and Facilities departments. The GSC is working with these departments to bring you the latest updates and information as they work out the last few kinks in the new Housing. We thank you for your patience and understanding.
Achieved: Items deliverable immediately:
Mail delivery to the CGU apartments is to begin this week.
The netting between the golf course and the apartments is to be completed this week.
Depending on the kind of
service (whether DSL is transferred with the phone or not) this will be
in place either the end of this week, or the end of next week. In the works: Items being worked on:
The school is still discussing providing this service at no cost to residents. CGU will begin testing to make sure complete service can be provided to all apartments. If it is approved, this service could be provided by the end of November. The GSC will have a ‘Wireless Watch’ space on our website’s main page, as well as on our GSC Information Kiosk (outside Hagelbargers) with the latest information on this.
CGU has signed a provider
contract with Time Warner Cable to provide cable service to residents
for a fee. Time Warner Cable has yet to let us know when they will
provide the service. As soon as we know when this will be we will let
everyone know. General information you might find helpful in settling in
The microwave ovens and the small two-burner stoves in the kitchenettes do not require an exhaust fan. Studios are for one person and the kitchenettes are not designed for full service cooking and baking. We realize some students will still have issues of lingering food aromas in their studios, and we understand your concerns. However, there seems nothing structural that can be done about this at this time. If anyone has a creative solution Housing would be very happy to hear about it. Please contact the Housing department or the GSC.
If you are calling Verizon for DSL set-up and you want ONLY INTERNET, you must tell Verizon you want a ‘data line only’. Otherwise you will get a phone line as well. Do not say you want a phone line for internet – this confuses them! When Verizon has come out they will give you a number for the line. You should fill out a form in Housing, with all of the information, to request CGU to finish the connection.
