The Electrical Shop is responsible for the installation, maintenance troubleshooting and repair of the Colleges electrical systems, low voltage thru the 4160 volt distribution system, including metering, maintaining the electrical sub station and five, 2 Mega Watt generators to provide emergency power to the Claremont Colleges.

The tasks listed below are routinely performed by the Electric Shop:

PM PROGRAM

Elevators, fire alarms, intrusion systems, temperature alarms, panic alarm systems, variable frequency motor drives, electrical transformers, emergency lighting systems, Los Angeles County Fire Department required 5 year certifications for fire sprinkler Systems, card access and point of sale card reader systems.

DESIGN, REPAIR, INSTALL

Lighting (interior, exterior, emergency, automated), whole building lighting retrofitting, motors, and controls electrical panels, transformers, receptacles, fire alarms, intrusion alarm systems, data, telephone, fiber optics, card access and point of sale card reader systems, pa systems, athletic scoreboards, panic alarm systems, temperature alarm systems, heating and cooling controls systems, emergency generators.

DAILY

Monitor fire alarm, intrusion and temperature alarm systems.

The Electric Shop currently comprises a crew of 11 journeyman level technicians that are capable of providing solutions for all the electrical needs of the Claremont Colleges.  All low voltage technicians are NICET II certified.  We are on call 24 hours a day, 7 days a week with an average after hour response time of 30 minutes.
