Wanawake Weusi (Swahili for Black Women), has been resurrected. The club, which was formed to cater for the needs of the evergrowing population of African-American and African Women at Sc~ipps College, had died a silent death. But with the coming-in of a new breed of first-years, and with the help of Shontae Praileau, the Coordinator of Student Leadership, Development & Programs at OBSA, the club has been revived. Many of the students of color have shown a vested interest in the club and the faculty are excited about the prospects the club holds for the future. The aims of the club are simple, but the club members intend to implement all the plans as quickly and efficiently as possible.

Plans include active cooperation with the Office of Admissions in the recruitment of students of color. The club will also be working with Dean of Students Debra Wood, who spearheaded the Multicultural Program at Scripps, to broaden the diversity at Scripps College.

There are also numerous activities planned for the fall semester, including the Sadie Hawkins party, a 5-C event hosted by the club on behalf of the Scrippsees. Although Wanawake Weusi was organized for women of Aftican descent, the club will try and cater for all women of color at Scripps. Students are encouraged to participate actively, and give suggestions about what they would like to see happening at Scripps. The club will be working with Asian/Asian American Student Union, with whom we will share office space in Kimberly Hall. Everyone is welcome to visit the office and we look forward to seeing you there. Thank you to all those who have participated actively in the revival of the club.
