Open House A yearly event that celebrates the opening of the new academic year, every September. This event provides an opportunity for new students to meet returning students, faculty and staff. Great food, music, conversation and a friendly environment await all who attend. The Sponsor Program Sponsors are returning students whose goal is to mentor the incoming class with the transition to college life. The Sponsor serves as a supportive resource person throughout the freshman year. Latino Heritage Month A calendar of events that celebrates the cultural heritage of Chicanos and Latinos. Films, speakers, lectures and social events all constitute the five-college celebration held in the Fall semester. The CLSA Resource Center A central location where students gain information regarding scholarships, graduate and professional programs, fellowships, internships and graduate exams. Chispas The official online newsletter designed to keep students informed about events, issues, internships and job information. Submissions are welcomed by the editorial staff. The Senior Dinner A special event for graduating seniors. It is an evening of pure joy, knowing that four years of challenging studies are finally completed. It is also an opportunity to come together one last time to bid each other farewell, before going our separate ways. Día de la Familia Our Family Day is a joyous occasion uniting students, their families and the Chicano/Latino college community. We enjoy an afternoon of good food, music and lively conversation. We provide recognition for student academic achievement, leadership and other talents including a special acknowledgement to graduating seniors. Alumni Networking Sessions Provide an opportunity for undergraduates to meet with alumni of the various Colleges to discuss careers, postgraduate perspectives and build networks for professional growth and development.

Movie socials Give students the opportunity to see Latino-oriented films, in a relaxed setting, where discussion is encouraged. The César Chávez Commemoration Celebrates the life and accomplishments of the founder of the United Farm Workers Union. Speakers, lectures, dinners and musical events are all part of the extensive five-college celebration. Feast of the Virgin of Guadalupe An annual celebration in honor of La Virgen de Guadalupe, the Patroness of the Americas, co-hosted every December with the Chaplains’ Office. The Fiesta includes a mass with music, followed by a traditional meal. In addition to being a spiritual event, this is also a cultural celebration throughout the Américas. Everyone is welcome to attend. The Student Activities Committee Is made up of one representative from each undergraduate College. This committee serves as an activities planning group, to enhance existing CLSA programs and services. Study Breaks A time to relax and refresh, study breaks are a great opportunity to visit with other students while taking a few moments away from the books. CLSA is happy to host a number of study breaks during the year, and we look forward to student visits during those times.
