Meet the Chaplains and Staff
Rabbi Leslie Bergson, Chaplain
Rabbi Leslie Bergson is the Jewish Chaplain and Hillel Director at The Claremont Colleges in Claremont, California. She was ordained by Hebrew Union College-Jewish Institute of Religion in May, 1995, after five years of study in Jerusalem, Los Angeles and New York. During that time, she served as student rabbi in South Lake Tahoe, California; Norwalk, Connecticut and Provincetown, Massachusetts, and as a rabbinic intern for the American Jewish Congress.
Rabbi Bergson received her Bachelor of Arts in English literature from the State University of New York at Albany in 1972, and a Master of Arts in Hebrew Letters from Hebrew Union College in 1993.
Before beginning her rabbinic studies, Rabbi Bergson served as Administrator and Program Director at San Francisco Hillel and Northern California Hillel Council. She was an active member of Congregation Sha'ar Zahav in San Francisco, where she served as Vice-President of the congregation, member of the synagogue board, and chairperson of the Ritual Committee.
Rabbi Bergson holds a certificate in Basic Clinical Pastoral Education from UCLA Medical Center, where she serves as a volunteer chaplain. She has served as a member of the City of Claremont Human Relations Committee, an organization dedicated to fighting hate crime and hate incidents, and is secretary of the Board of Directors of the Inland Fair Housing Mediation Board.
