Bruce Spena

Director, Central Facilities Services & CUC Facilities

Mr. Spena has served as the Director of Central Facilities Services (CFS) since December 2006. CFS is an organization of Engineers, tradesmen and other facility professionals that provides facility maintenance services to the seven Claremont Colleges. CFS also serves as the facility maintenance authority for the Claremont University Consortium, and operates The Claremont College electric utility.

Mr. Spena has been in the facility maintenance field since 1977 when he began work as a civilian employee of the US Army at Fort Meade, MD. During this time he served as an engineer designer, and then as chief of the construction management office. These duties included the management of all construction and maintenance projects on all Army property in Maryland and Delaware. He also served as a guest instructor at the US Army Engineer School at Fort Belvoir, VA, where he lectured on the subject of government construction contracts. Mr. Spena's next Army assignment was as the chief of the facility maintenance operation at Fort Devens, MA. Here he managed a large group of trade professionals tasked with maintaining Army facilities throughout New England, including such diverse facilities as an airfield, a hospital, sewage treatment plant, and thousands of acres of training range.

In 1986 Mr. Spena entered his first position in higher education as the Director of Physical Plant at Berklee College of Music in Boston, MA. During his tenure Berklee embarked on its first building construction project. Mr. Spena was also responsible for Berklee's Security Office.

Mr. Spena received a B.S in Civil Engineering from Drexel University. He is a member of APPA and The Claremont Coordinating Committee. Prior to his career as a facilities professional, he served as a Chinese linguist as an active duty member of the US Air Force.
