Barbara L. Jefferson

Advancement
Barbara Jefferson is
responsible for the leadership of all fund raising, community, government and
community relations activities to support the mission and strategic plan of CUC
and The Claremont Colleges. Specifically, she (1) researches, cultivates,
solicits and stewards gifts from individuals, corporations and foundations; (2)
maintains a basic media relations program; (3) oversees a community relations
program through attendance at meetings and special events; (4) maintains
ongoing relationships with key city, county, state and federal government
representations; (5) develops and maintains advancement policies and procedures
to guide office operations.
Dr. Jefferson’s professional experience in higher education
includes more than ten years in successful fund raising and 25 years in college
and university administration. In addition to working at Claremont
Graduate University,
she has held administrative positions at the University
of La Verne, Pitzer, Whittier,
and Dartmouth College.
Memberships have been held in the National Society of Fund Raising Executives
(NSFRE) Los Angeles Chapter, the Planned Giving Roundtable (PRG), and the
Council for the Advancement and Support of Education (CASE). She has served on
community boards, as a reviewer for the Parsons Corporation Scholarships and as
a proposal reviewer for the Los Angeles
County Regional Parks
and Open Space District Competitive Grant Program as well as the Edison
International K-12 Awards for Excellence. She was instrumental in the receipt
of a CASE Recognition Award for the Pitzer College Annual Fund.
Dr. Jefferson’s formal education includes undergraduate
education in biology and chemistry from the University
of La Verne, and a M.A. and Ph.D.
degree in higher education administration from Claremont
Graduate University.
